From population spread to cellular immunity: A mathematical modeller's journey through COVID-19
  • Speaker: Iain Moyles, York University
  • Date and Time: Wednesday, September 28, 2022 - 2:30pm to 3:30pm
  • Abstract: Diseases affect us at all scales from within our bodies to population spread. In this talk we will explore mathematical models of different structures at different scales through the lens of COVID-19. These will include models of behaviour, waning, household structure, and vaccination strategies at the population level as well as vaccination at the cellular level. We will show how the interconnectivity between model and data can show the necessity for missing mechanisms. We will also show how mathematical structure and analysis can reveal insight into dynamics at different timescales, elucidating changes to experimental protocols.
