Who are the homeless?
America's homeless are primarily single men or families with children--  Nearly equal percentages of blacks and whites are homeless, and significant percentages are mentally ill or substance abusers; a quarter were sexually abused as children.
According to Kozol, the homeless are "impossible to count because they are so difficult to find."
