Mei Lin Fung
Once more, a small and focussed turn out, Mei Lin had returned form her travels and talked widely on the various initiatives that she is working on - some directly related and some tangential
Notes
Focus has been on People Centered Internet and its projects (was traveling for half the months of Nov, Dec and Jan)
AQUA - Dan Desmond - a number of public health projects (de-identified data) are seeking funding. The one most connected to LIG is the one seeking funding jointly with the Red Cross for addressing first 72 hours after a disaster (connecting people to prescriptions and services like dialysis which need identity)
She is personally focused on Puerto Rico - where PCI is encouraging and supporting
4 community based pilots (led by Marti Grimminck ) starting at end of this month - to assess the situation and support community-led recovery
Several Puerto Rico fund raising initiatives underway for PCI - not directly related to identity - Fed: DOD, VA HHS and FEMA; NGO: Women's Campaign International, Stanford Graduate Business School
FEMA has reached out to Rand Corporation for connectivity recovery - PCI has been contacted
MIT has a joint university in Singapore -
SUTD
. While in Singapore, Mei Lin met the Director of the MIT
urban risk lab
, an architect, Miho Mazereeuw - which has been funded by FEMA to look at disaster recovery - so buildings won't be rebuilt only to go down again in next year's hurricane season
MIT energy lab has also sent team to Puerto Rico -
Solar Power and Water Purification
Fund raising for Puerto Rico - Vint Cerf in Palo Alto March 6th and another event organized by the Stanford Graduate Business School on March 10th
Impact Network
Feb 17th - hackathon - to make progress on project pipeline - a proposed platform for funding projects - World Economic Forum Internet for All Steering Committee created diagram below. JP will be attending.
WEF is moving forward with Project Pipeline Platform which the Impact Network; WEF and IEEE working group headed by John Garrity - former Cisco - now at the
USAID Global Development lab / Innovation
Salesforce VP Innovation/ Point of View on Blockchain - Phil Komarny;
Actions
Dave Crocker connected to Dan Desmond around first 72 hour initiative
John Philpin - attend hackathon on Feb 17th - Mei Lin to send details
Jeff to connect into the Puerto Rico initiatives - Mei Lin will introduce to Marci Harris
Conclusion
Lost identity needs to get involved with other groups in this space to provide a foundation to thinking abstract and broader ideas.
We will use the models shared by Mei LIn and available in Debate Graph.
The group can successfully work with the other groups as a layer of longer term thought - since the groups that are typically involved tend to be tactical or operational - though occasionally both. It is recognized that longer term thought and strategy is often missing for no fault other than the groups are simply trying to get the job done.
Identity is strategic
