Maria Teresa Ambrósio (1936-2006)
Portuguese Educational Researcher and Politician.

 

Maria Teresa Ambrósio dedicated her life to the cause of Education and Democracy in Portugal.
She graduated in Physics and Chemical Sciences, from the University of Lisbon, and obtained her Master´s degree in Development Sociology from the Grenoble University. In 1986, she finished her PhD in Education Sciences at the University of Tours, in France. In parallel, she taught at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of Lisbon´s Nova University (FCT/UNL). 
She was chairman of the National Educational Board (1996-2002) and founded the FCT/UNL´s Unity of Research, Education and Development. Additionally, she was a correspondent member of the Academy of Sciences.
Towards the end of her life, she also assumed the role of consultant to the European Union in the field of Education and Training, and became chairwoman of AMONET´s General Assembly (2006).

She dedicated her life to the cause of Education and Democracy in Portugal. She taught at the Faculdade de Ciências e de Tecnologia of Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT/UNL). She graduated in Physics and Chemical Science (Univ. She was chairman of the National Educational Board (1996-2002) and founded the Unidade de Investigação, Educação e Desenvolvimento (UEID) at FCT/UNL. She was also a correspondent of  Academia das Ciências. Towards the end of her life she was a consultant of the European Community for the Education and Formation and chairman of the AMONET General Assembly (2006).

Teresa Ambrósio consagrou a sua vida à causa da Educação e da Democracia em Portugal. Foi professora da Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, da Universidade Nova de Lisboa e professora “Agrégée” da Universidade de Tours. Licenciou-se em Ciências Físico-Químicas (Universidade de Lisboa) e obteve o mestrado em Sociologia do Desenvolvimento pela Universidade de Grenoble. Em 1986, doutorou-se em Ciências da Educação (Universidade de Tours-Doctorat d’Etat).

Foi presidente do Conselho Nacional da Educação (1996-2002). Criou a Unidade de Investigação, Educação e Desenvolvimento (UEID) na FCT/UNL. Era membro correspondente da Academia de Ciências. No final da sua vida era consultora da Comunidade Europeia na Área de Educação e Formação. Foi presidente da Assembleia Geral daAMONET (2006).
Por Edital de 16/09/2009, o seu nome foi inscrito na toponímia de Lisboa, na Rua Interior da Alameda da Universidade, entre a Faculdade de Farmácia e a Faculdade de Medicina Dentária, com a legenda "Pedagoga e Política/1937–2006".
