Induct.no – Open Innovation
A platform combining Henry Chesbrough's Open Innovation and social Web techniques. Induct Software is a Corporate Stakeholder in Knowledge Federation.

Springboard story:

Alf Martin Johanssen travels to Berkeley, hears Chessbrough's talk about Open Innovation, and a talk about Web 2.0, and says: Hey, these two ideas can be naturally combined. (...) One day Chessbrough gets a phone call – someone in Norwayh (!) is creating a platform for Open Innovation! (...) A couple of years later Chessbrough is in Oslo – he is now the head of the advisory board to a company that is active at four continents, rapidly spreading its activities.

Induct Software is a Corporate Stakeholder in Knowledge Federation

At Dubrovnik 2010 and Barcelona 2011 Knowledge Federation workshops Induct – company that AMJ established – is a Corporate Stakeholder.

Hence we are developing together this way of working: KF creates and implements suitable open innovation oprocesses in key domains, such as journalism and science. Then we report back to Induct what functionality may be needed. Hence we have here an instance of IT innovation that is guided by systemic work (...).

Induct's value propositions

Asked – What are the value propositions of Induct software to a company or institution wanting to engage in open innovation? AMJ answers:
  • Process – Induct enables orchestration of suitable processes: Tasks are named, teams are formed around them, then tasks are moved through pre-planned phases
  • Priorities – Tasks are cheduled, critical tasks are identified and streamlined...
  • Enthusiasm – Social dynamics created around open innovation processes serve to ignite and upkeep the enthusiasm of participants
  • Federation – Induct platform enables sharing of work and ideas across innovation teams and company and institution walls

Induct's role in IEforGJ project

In our IEforGJ project Induct serves to orchestrate the work of the transdiscipline:
  • specify the desired characteristics of new journalism (we assume they have already been identified by the community through a sensemaking process
  • create a team around each characteristic / idea
  • once a good understanding of what's involved in supporting the characteristic is reached, the idea is moved to the next - systemic phase, (by taking advantage of Induct's process planning mechanisms) where a new team takes over and new tasks are identified.
  • The final phase is – action; the butterfly – what does it take to put the identified systemic change into actual practice?
