Hamas is an elected party
On 26 Jan 2006 Hamas won the first local elections in Gaza. Despite the 2007 parliamentary coalition with Fatah breaking down, Hamas remains recognized as a democratically elected party. It is subject to and needs to comply with international human rights laws as every other governing body.
