Detection Principles
All particles of a beam or their secondary interaction or decay products will eventually interact with surrounding matter. Depending on the particle type and energy, swift particles penetrating in a material will be subject to different atomic and nuclear processes which effects are amplified and recorded. Collating all these clues from different parts of the detector, physicists build up a snapshot of what was in the detector at the moment of a collision.
