Introduction:

Maria-Sofia is a single parent, the mother of two children who is expecting her third child in a month. She and her family lived in her employer’s home in the Napa Valley. When the fire broke out, a very light sleeper, she was awakened by the light and sound of flames from the house next door which she could see from her downstairs room. She rushed out with her family and no one had more than the clothes on their backs when they were rushed to the shelters. Very sadly when the house burst into flames and was rapidly burned to the ground, firefighters were too late to save her employers who were trapped in their bedrooms

She moved to California and with her two children as undocumented migrants, who have lived the past three years in fear of deportation. She saved up to buy a second hand car which she uses to buy groceries for her employers, for whom she provides housekeeping and cooking services. In the first few months of her pregnancy, one of the supermarket checkers recommended she go to Ole Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center which provides health services geared for undocumented migrant workers in Napa Valley. It was during a visit in her 6th month of pregnancy that she discovered she has gestational diabetes. She tests her blood 6 times a day and meets with the nutritionist once a week to go over her diet and exercise regime.

This document envisions Maria-Sofia’s encounters with people and institutions as she re-covers her lost credit card and identity credentials to access her bank account and restore her credit history. We use an Information Lifecycle Engagement Model as described at the end of this document.
