I don't think there's any evidence for the assertion that "trees could cease to be a carbon sink if we go past 2.5 degrees". Current process-based models generally project an ongoing carbon net land sink for all emissions scenarios http://www.climatechange2013.org/images/figures/WGI_AR5_Fig6-24.jpg –the uncertainties are large, but there's no indication of global forests switching from source to sink in association with a global warming threshold. We might get increased mortality in some places, but linking a global shift in this to a specific global warming threshold isn't backed up by anything as far as I'm aware. Richard Betts.
