Established in 2005, the NYC Mental Health Film Festival (#MHFF) has screened more than 50 films, attracted over 5,000 audience members, and served as a positive voice and advocacy effort promoting social justice and human rights for people with mental health concerns.

As the oldest and largest mental health film festival in the United States, we have taken a bold stand in fighting the stigma people with mental illness often face. We achieve through “building a community through film” and by creating a platform in which people with mental health issues can be seen in a positive light.

Community Access, the festival’s host and principal organizer, is proud to produce this event which has become a powerful catalyst for creating a dialogue about mental health.  #MHFF annually showcases independent, short, and feature films and documentaries, and hosts panel discussions that foster a dialogue about mental health.  Since its inception, mental health recipients have played a major role in organizing the festival:  selecting films, volunteering at the event, assisting with promotions and community outreach, and in other advocacy roles.

#MHFF receives films submissions and attracts audience members from across the United States and around the world.  We are proud that #MHFF is internationally recognized as the go-to event in NYC to experience inspiring and thought-provoking films about mental health matters.  The festival is listed in the Mayor’s Office of Film, Theater & Broadcasting, the oldest film commission in the United States and has received media attention in the New York Times, Washington Times, NBC New York, NY1, and the New York Nonprofit Press.
