The public isn’t competent to understand many risk assessment issues
In certain instances arguments hinge on technical and scientific questions. The general public does not have the expertise to understand these matters, let alone provide coherent arguments about them. In a crowdsourcing environment, how can these key technical issues be identified? And once identified, can they be communicated effectively by experts to the general public? Can crowdsourcing meld effectively with this more traditional approach to risk assessment?
