I would start with one island (the Philippines have 7,100 islands!) where I came from.
Panay Island. Replicate it in the computational dynamics as the entire country. But, I would suggest you do the same for your island or province and let's see how to put it all together later.
This exercise will put Panay Island under the microscope and hopefully, we will able to point out issues and unexplored opportunities there.
