Common sense informs us that most people would prefer to remain out of jail, and that the threat of public humiliation is enough to deter some people, that a sentence of 20 years will deter most people than a sentence of two years, that a life sentence will deter most would-be criminals more than a senrence of 20 years. I think we have commonsense evidence that the death penalty is a better deterrent than prison sentences. |
