Israel abandoned illegal Gaza settlements, but retains control
In 2005 Israel left and destroyed its illegal settlements in Gaza, but did not relinquish its control over the Gaza Strip, including access by people, food, fuel, electricity, medicine. Access to Gaza is blocked on all sides except for one gateway controlled by Israel—Gaza is effectively a prison.
