Since the United Nations summit on climate change last month was able to raise awareness about the importance of reducing carbon emissions, countries around the world have been looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint. Even though the summit was considered a failure by most people it did succeed in getting countries more active in the process. According to the Committee on Climate Change, the United Kingdom needs a change in policy if they are going to achieve their own emissions reduction goals. The Committee claims that the United Kingdom cannot continue to rely on the market to achieve its goals in the future.

The Committee aimed to make suggestions that were both practical and affordable, including increased investment in electric cars and the infrastructure to support them, as well as clean coal technology. The Committee also said that more efforts needed to be made in alternative energy sources like wind and solar and increased investments in nuclear reactors. One suggestion called for a national campaign to get people involved with their own homes. This would include private owners, as well as builders of new homes to insulate their homes to decrease the amount of energy they consume. In addition the plan called for the replacement of all non-condensing boilers by the year 2022.

The UK has also been successful in building several energy from waste plants that reduce the amount of waste that goes into landfills while at the same time uses alternative forms of fuel which are not as harmful.
