Healthy Start Alliance [1] is the UK government food welfare scheme for low-income pregnant women, families with young children and pregnant teenagers. The welfare scheme provides vouchers to help purchase basic foods as well as vitamin coupons to swap for free Healthy Start vitamins. Women who are at least 10 weeks pregnant and families with children under four qualify for Healthy Start if the family is getting benefits and tax credits. Pregnant teenagers qualify during the whole of their pregnancy, even if they are not recipients of benefits or tax credits [2]. |
