Merrifeild in this text relates how literature of dystopia , relates to the world today. “ Dystopian urbanists subvert received meanings of pain and pleasure in the city.” Just in this quotes it not only displays what dystopia is but relates it to both pleasure and pain which is exactly what is compared in my writing about the obsession our society has had with entertainment. From this other factors of dystopian society such as “games” can relate to the dystopian theory. It does not narrow itself to just present day literature but past so that again it is clear that dystopia is not a new idea for the world. Many examples and quotes of how the world relates to literature and basically what and how Dystopia works. This is important because it gives more examples of literature to back up the fact that dystopic literature can relate to the real world. I will use this to display this fact and to show that literature can indeed be used as a theory even if it is just popular fiction rather than scholarly.
