Populations
There are a number of populations that are identified for being at increased risk for HIV exposure.

Often, prevention programming will target a specific group of individuals in an attempt to reduce high-risk behavior or to decrease rates of infection.
The populations identified as of CATIE's 2009 prevention literature survey are:
- Aboriginal
- Commercial Sex Workers
- Elderly
- Ethno-Racial & Cultural
- Health Care Providers
- Heterosexual Men
- Migrant
- Gay, bi-sexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM)
- People living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA/PHAs)
- Vertical transmission (a.k.a. mother-to-child transmission - MTCT)
- Women
- Youth
- Transgender persons
- Prisoners
