Mr. Gave stated that France is quite supportive of the social and solidarity economy (SSE), which covers such practices as: self-management, solidarity lending, local exchange trading systems, fair trade organizations, worker cooperatives, give-away shops, and trade unions—thus economy for the common good. He said that SSE has three common features: 1) It is not profit driven; 2) it is bottom-up and people-centered; and 3) it seeks to address the plague of poverty in an environmentally-friendly manner.
