Nidanas
"Next is the very important analysis of the manner in which the mental events deployed in time lead normally to a solidification of the self-other distinction and to a craving of the object, wichi si the sources of the wildness and drowsiness encountered in practicing 'shamatha'. This process of intentional identification starts with any encounter ("contact") and proceeds through a causal chain of cognitive events known as the chain of nidanas, which recur cyclically (Varela et al. 1991) cited on p. 224 of "On Becoming Aware".
