The reader will have evidence to hand.
No functional person slavishly believes (or gives credence to) every assertion they hear. It would simply be impossible to operate this way. Christians dismiss the unsupported assertions of Muslims, etc., as other dismiss theirs. We all do this. Special pleading is hypocritical.
