India is critical to the Governmentâs objectives, from development, regional stability and trade and investment to energy security, climate change, counter terrorism and reform of the global international systems.
The Government is committed to an enhanced partnership with India as an emerging global power, one that reflects our deep and historic ties and recognises Indiaâs strategic importance.
We need to better recognise Indiaâs rising global influence and work closely with the Indian government to address the many challenges facing South Asia, such as terrorism and extremism. We also need to engage with Indiaâs economic potential in a way that promotes both Indian and UK interests through strengthening trade links and increased co-operation in science, research and education.
British Ministers will of course be discussing the details of the enhanced partnership with their Indian counterparts before announcing them publicly. The enhanced partnership will help us in building a genuinely special relationship between our two countries.
