Since the Equifax breach, the potential for fraudulent credit cards increases exponentially.

The consequences are multiple.

Our research revealed that credit cards are used to verify identity when requested an address change with the US Post Office on-line and when requesting a birth certificate on-line.

Address and birth certificate are two of the new additional verifications required by the Real ID Act of 2005. The Real ID Act requires more verifications of identity when renewing a driver's license in order for the drivers license to be accepted by TSA to clear airport security. The deadline is now 2020, but most states, including California, will be implementing this workflow in 2018.

If we are to help individuals be prepared for the future, the implication is that the records to verify identity will continue to change or multiply - a moving target to be prepared for. Most of us are unprepared for the Real ID Act requirement to produce a birth certificate. That's probably why, according to 211CT, the most common questions they get about identity is about securing a birth certificate.
