Once a mission is set, leaders have to lead people in pursuit of it. A "greenwash" statement that dolls up a "grab-the-cash" strategy is quickly seen through. If leaders aren't inspired by a mission, others won't be either.
Developing a mission statement is more important than its actual words or symbolism. Those who crafted the statement began to commit themselves to it while crafting the thing.

It's not hard to word a mission with an obvious connection to social welfare if it is a fire department, health institution, or energy company. It's less obvious for something like a chicken packing house or a mechanics laundry. Just ask what a society in Compression really should expect this work organization to do.
