In the old days the priests helped to keep order in the kingdom. God was always watching and if you did something wrong in this life he would punish you, if not here than in the afterlife. Devout believers adjusted their behavior accordingly, always putting their best foot forward, guided in Christianity by The Sermon on the Mount, or the Ten Commandments and in other religions and philosophies by other suggested behaviors. Even those who did not believe could not but help Fear what might happen in the after-life.
Now tech companies know everything about us. Are they not the Gods we once feared? Should they not therefore behave like Gods, or just God, pointing out to us on Facebook or Twitter when we behave badly?
