The British Heart Foundation [1] is ‘the UK's number one heart charity’, whose new strategy aims to fund half a billion pounds of research from 2015–20. The BHF funds research, provides up-to-date information for the public and patients with heart disease, resources for health-care professionals, and campaigns for better heart health and services, and better policies. It partners with many organisations, including government other charities, professionals and individual supporters [2]. BHF also runs a Heart Towns and Cities scheme, encouraging entire communities to come together to fight heart disease – including benefiting from a free service (Heart Matters) for keeping your heart healthy and a Health at Work programme (practical tools and resources) [3].
