MESA Model Program Youth Led on Climate Change
Background for Climate Change successful public and private partnerships with civil societyEDUCATION - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math
  • In 2011, public and private partnerships with civil society included alumni from SJSU and members of the community (a former industry advisory board member 2010, in 2011 my private life role as a community advocate for parents in education)
  • Public Sector - NASA Defense and Education San Jose State University (acadamia higher education) and Elementary and Middle Schools in the lowest performing districts Alum Rock and Franklin McKinley with feeders into the East Side Union High School District and Woodside High School
  • Private Sector - Industry Advisory Board partners Cisco, Intel, IBM, AMD, and EMC and their workforce specifically the diversity groups (conexion at Cisco) 
  • My first year at Cisco I joined Conexion and volunteered at the MESA day event 
  • My last year at Cisco I was one of two co-chairs representing Cisco on the Industry Advisory Board 
  • The regional event a year after leaving Cisco I volunteered as a member of civil society and member of the local civil rights group La Raza Roundtable.  
  • Civil Society - Friends of MESA, x, y and La Raza Roundtable members (a local civil rights group) community advocates, former students in the community alumni
  • A local and regional event hosted at SJSU MESA program where program staff, alumni and members of the community come together to host an event with private sector partners Industry Advisory Board Members and their employee diversity networks which contribute Time, Treasures or Talent. 

  • commit to work as a volunteer, a means to track the Talent, Time or Treasure supplied to the PPP for each person would ideally publish or tag the employers and the persons social media or SDG webpage (where the person tracks their contribution to meeting their individual plans).  
  • MESA students speech contest winners presenting on the topic of industrial waste in under-developed countries.
  • In 2015, the program website indicates the following for k-5th grade, 6-8th middle and 9-12th grade high school programs
  • Total students served: 20,299
  • Centers: 19
  • High schools: 164
  • Middle and junior high schools: 174
  • Elementary schools: 55
