Extrait - In Abbot Farris’s Approaches to improving the quality of life I primarily focus on the sixth section, which covers harmony. This section talks about living in a non-toxic environment, enjoying the world of beauty, feeling unity with nature, and sustaining environmental mastery, essentially the control of external activities that affect well being. The chapter states that low harmony results from the inability to change or improve the surrounding context, leading to a lack your sense of control over the external world. Farris talks about harmony in almost the exact sense I am defining happiness. He states that harmony is gained through the external world, and controlling that world is the only way to achieve happiness. This source talks about exactly what sectors of our environment are harmful, how they affect us, how they will continue to affect us, and how we can fix these issues. To summarize on part of Farris’s five step plan, “The key to several of these problems lies in transforming environmental forces into energy. Energy from Middle Eastern oil drains fiscal resources, and the use of oil results in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. A solution to both of these problems lies in transforming environmental forces into energy.” Essentially Farris argues that we must live in harmony with our world in order to life the happiest possible existence. |
