The "this is new york" map project

What are the challenges facing New York City and how can we deal with them?

News has moved beyond mere reporting to include a great deal of analysis. Why not use news as the centerpiece of a map -- a news and information map -- that tries to tackle the issues of our day?

That's what we've tried to do here.

We've seeded the map with links to The New York Times print edition stories from a three week period at the beginning of June 2012. These gave us the basis for our map. We've added other links and information from other sites.

To indicate how maps like these can go beyond mere reporting we've added a couple of issue questions. Track down through the school system section to private schools to see an example. The serious social challenge facing the incoming Mayor of hunger in the City could certainly use its own map, and we hope that those involved in that challenge will consider it.

Very importantly the map links up to other related maps through the "Social Issues of the Sustainable City" link.

Please enjoy exploring the map.
