1. Connectivity
Europeans must be able to get online, anywhere, anytime and on any device.

"Digital freedom" of movement is vital for realising the Digital Single Market – and thus generating new economic growth in Europe. Consumers must have easy access to ordering, paying and receiving services online, without limitations from borders, lack of interoperability or inadequate broadband connectivity. Ensuring the availability of infrastructure and reliable supply of quality online content at fair prices is a prerequisite for a truly Digital Single Market, and meeting the increasing demands of the consumers.
  • The total estimated value of online transactions in Europe was around EUR 165 billion in 2010.
  • Broadband could create more than two million jobs in Europe by 2015.
  • In 2014, sales of tablets & smart phones is expected to be 44 percent up on the 2011 market for PCs.
  • Global Internet traffic including mobile data is rising exponentially: Almost doubling each year. Average Internet usage could rise to 25 gigabytes per user per month
