Sofia Quintino was one of the first Portuguese female physicians to graduate in Portugal.
An active member of the Portuguese Women´s Crusade, she defended, in 1905, a thesis entitled “Some Words Regarding the Sensitization of Bacteria”.
A free thinker, she participated in the first Congress of Free Thought, in 1908, and had her “Childcare” conference significantly reported by the newspaper A República.
As a feminist and pacifist, she integrated the Portuguese Committee of the association La Paix e le Désarmement par les Femmes, in addition to being a co-founder of the Portuguese Group of Feminist Studies.
She was the first physician to assume the position of Director of the Physiotherapy Service of the Civil Hospitals of Lisbon, in September of 1921. In 1931, she graduated from the Faculty of Medicine of Paris.
Foi uma das primeiras médicas a formar-se em Portugal. Membro activo da Cruzada das Mulheres Portuguesas. Defende a tese “Algumas palavras acerca de Sensibilização de Bactérias” formando-se em Medicina a 13 de Julho de 1905.Livre-Pensadora, participa no primeiro congresso do Livre-Pensamento em 1908 e a conferência “puericultura”, por si proferida no Centro Escolar Republicano Boto Machado, em Setembro do mesmo ano é amplamente noticiada em A República, dirigida por Artur Leitão.
Feminista e pacifista, integra o Comité Português da associação “La Paix e le Désarmement par les Femmes”, sendo co-fundadora do Grupo Português de Estudos Feministas. Foi a primeira médica a desempenhar o cargo de Directora do Serviço de Fisioterapia dos Hospitais Civis de Lisboa, em Setembro de 1921. Em 1931 diplomou-se pela Faculdade de Medicina de Paris.
