Goals
The goals of this report, beyond presenting a very brief general synopsis of the range of themes addressed and opinions expressed during the year-long discussion, are to convey the major emerging insights and positions in the group. These positions do not coalesce into a complete consensus recommendation much less a blueprint for a coherent 'economic model for survival', but some recommendations for the process of reaching the necessary agreements and provisions for a more sustainable future might be organized.
Specifically, the report aims at
- expressing the appreciation and support of the group for many of the initiatives, projects, experiments and efforts already underway in many parts of the world, governments, private enterprise, and other organizations; and describing some of these efforts in detail as examples of beneficial efforts;
- identifying a set of general principles and criteria for such a sustainable future and for the further development and evolution of agreements and steps to get there; (some of which may be describing aspects of future developments to be avoided)
- identifying missing elements in the spectrum of currently ongoing as well as proposed activities and efforts;
- identifying current activities, practices and policies that appear counterproductive to the goal of attaining a sustainable economy;
- articulating recommendations for a general strategy and framework for the process of moving towards a model for survival;
- outlining specific projects and suggestions (not yet proposed and documented elsewhere, but needed) to help move the evolution towards a more sustainable future forward.
- sketching the approach taken in developing the recommendations and organizing the report.
