Good students who do well in school are often the targets of bullies. The reason for this bullying may be due to the bully feeling jealous or angry at that student for doing well, especially when they are not. Often, bullying can start with what most consider as good natured teasing.
Most people are teased by friends over small issues and most shrug it off as nothing special. Bullies too may use the guise of some friendly banter and good natured teasing to begin with. They may like to call the student a geek or a nerd.
After a while, the verbal attacks may start to increase over a period of time. These verbal attacks will often leave the victim feeling outcast, frightened and even depressed. Verbal bullying can stop the bullied student from participating in class as often or doing their homework on time. They may want to ditch being a good student, because they may think that this is what is causing them to be bullied.
Student who are bullied are less likely to feel confident about themselves and the bullies will do what is necessary to increase this. Some students who may not be high achievers may also be bullied by smarter pupils. Often, they may tease and make fun of a student who is not achieving academically.
Bullies will often taunt such students and like to call them stupid. Their confidence is affected and they are more likely to pay less attention in class. In order to try and fit in, some of these students will stop trying altogether and instead, may become naughtier.
