Comment by Guy Herbert on the
Ideal Government blog in response the debate around the introduction of a proposed new biometric ID system in the UK:
"The debate around introduction of biometric ID systems ought to be about and the universal implementation of a bureaucratic model of the person.
Why the near universal assumption that identity is a property of persons, not relationships of persons?
Why assume that it is/ought to be one-to-one and onto the person?
Why assume that persons are/ought to be unitary entities mapped to bodies and containing no inconsistencies of representation or function when viewed in diferent contexts?
Why is making people equivalent for all purposes with a single official file on them even remotely acceptable?"
