Responsibilities
Within England, we make sure:
- independent NHS foundation trusts are well-led so that they can provide quality care on a sustainable basis
- essential services are maintained if a provider gets into serious difficulties
- the NHS payment system promotes quality and efficiency
- procurement, choice and competition operate in the best interests of patients

Who we work with
We work with partners such as the Care Quality Commission, NHS Trust Development Authority and NHS England to make sure our efforts are complementary.
We work closely with our partners because we can do a better job for patients that way. We regularly share information with our partners and work together to address problems with care when needed.
