Final Words
July 22
Tammy Chan - I will not attend next Tuesday because I will be on vacation in Hawaii.
Denise O'Brien - Sharing a few words from my mentor Mary Kay Ash: "Let's take a really good look at what God has entrusted us with and decide if we are doing all we should with it. I want you to take the brakes off your thinking. It really is true that whatever the mind can conceive and believe it can achieve." So blessed by God because of the opportunity to be the proclaimer. To proclaim what we are doing, to the world
Kennan Salinero - Always fascinating
Brian Donohue - I like our check-in approach to hear how people are doing, ask questions, see how they're doing.
Jim Caldwell - Supposed to present next week on how collaboration creates breakthroughs on healthy communities.
Jonathan Trent - Look forward to another talk next Tuesday. Substantive rather than speculative. "If the sky is the limit, why do we have footprints on the moon?"
David Price - Excited to see output from Just Picture It program
July 29
Mei Lin - a pause, reflection
Jim - the F4H abbreviation is nice to have, shortens the long words, but there needs to be a compromise - could have a URL for short and long and both point to that same site with the full name that captures the mission more fully.
Kennan - ruminative discussion - each putting a piece in the stew - we are looking at the larger pool together
Stan - thank you
Allen - working with Knowledge Federation and Program for the Future since December 2013 - these areas are very near and dear to me - knowledge discovery is something I've been interested in for many years, and felt compelled to participate in this - I've been on my own entrepreneurial venture for the past several months and with a health start up - I hope the work I do contributes to all the things you have been talking about
Mei Lin
Final reflection 1.5 hours after our call...... a poem I found in a link from a post on Quora
Ithaka is where Odysseus was heading back to after the Trojan wars, it took him 20 years, in the story by Homer. Ithaca, NY where Cornell University is, is named after it.
When you set out for Ithaka
ask that your way be long,
full of adventure, full of instruction.
The Laistrygonians and the Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - do not fear them:
such as these you will never find
as long as your thought is lofty, as long as a rare
emotion touch your spirit and your body.
The Laistrygonians and the Cyclops,
angry Poseidon - you will not meet them
unless you carry them in your soul,
unless your soul raise them up before you.
Ask that your way be long.
At many a Summer dawn to enter
with what gratitude, what joy -
ports seen for the first time;
to stop at Phoenician trading centres,
and to buy good merchandise,
mother of pearl and coral, amber and ebony,
and sensuous perfumes of every kind,
sensuous perfumes as lavishly as you can;
to visit many Egyptian cities,
to gather stores of knowledge from the learned.
Have Ithaka always in your mind.
Your arrival there is what you are destined for.
But don't in the least hurry the journey.
Better it last for years,
so that when you reach the island you are old,
rich with all you have gained on the way,
not expecting Ithaka to give you wealth.
Ithaka gave you a splendid journey.
Without her you would not have set out.
She hasn't anything else to give you.
And if you find her poor, Ithaka hasn't deceived you.
So wise you have become, of such experience,
that already you'll have understood what these Ithakas mean.
