New language

Why do we need new language? Because in this age of social media you cannot redefine the old terms. They are now too widespread to be retrievable. For example see:

tagboard.com/bipolardisorder

which presents the latest status updates across major social networks with #bipolardisorder.

How can we get there? See the section on "neurodiversity" which links to an article.

So ...

Not "psychosis" but:
  1. Extraordinary experience
  2. Spiritual emergency
  3. Spiritual crisis (for those who have non-secular frameworks)
  4. Gone mad
  5. Lost the plot

Not "anti-psychotic" (but "neuroleptic" or simply "major tranquilizer")

Not "mental health care" or "mental illness problems" but "psychological health."

Not "service user" or "SU" (UK) but "person in distress" or "PD"

Not "mental illness" but "distress of consciousness" or simply "distress."

Not "diagnosis" but "label."

Not "schizophrenia" at all.

See specific comments on specific labels in this section.
