Universal Design for Learning is a philosophy and an approach to learning. Many of the strategies and techniques of UDL can be used with various levels of technology or even when technology is not available. However, when available, technology can and should be a central tool for implementing UDL strategies. Because technology allows for more flexibility and built in options for both students and teachers it is an effective tool for providing flexibility and multiple options for student learning (MSDE). It is important to note however, that just because technology is being used, does not mean that it is a
lesson designed for universal learning (National Center on Universal Design for Learning, 2013). What is important is how the technology is being used.Technology is able to give teachers and students instantaneous options for addressing barriers in the content that may arise during a learning activity.
