US Healthy People 2020
California is a part of the national survey for health and livelihood which includes descriptions of risk factors and health indicators (http://www.cdph.ca.gov/data/indicators/Pages/HP2020Planning.aspx).
Healthy People 2020 (HP2020) is a national health agenda that communicates a vision and a strategy for improving the health of the Nation's population and achieving health equity.

Each decade since 1980, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has released a comprehensive set of national public health objectives known as the Healthy People initiative. The initiative has been grounded in the notion that setting objectives and providing benchmarks to track and monitor progress can motivate, guide, and focus action. It is designed to meet a broad range of health needs, encourage collaborations across sectors, guide individuals toward making informed health decisions, and measure the impact of our prevention activities.

HP2020 will provide a framework to address risk factors and determinants of health and the diseases and disorders that affect our communities. It will enable state and local public health departments and their partners to set priorities and assign tasks to help achieve the objectives.

CDPH is currently engaged in the implementation of HP2020 in California, which we have termed Healthy California 2020. As part of this planning process, the Public Health Advisory Committee is advising CDPH on the development of Healthy California 2020. Additionally, CDPH will continue to incorporate parts of Healthy People in the next iteration of the CDPH Strategic Plan (PDF)Opens a new browser window. On the national level, CDPH is participating in the feedback process towards the development of HP2020 through various means, including attendance at national Healthy People meetings and providing comments on the proposed HP2020 objectives.
