In this second session, we will drill further into the pedagogies and social modalities that are driving the design of today's MOOCs. We will outline core functional and technical requirements for an effective MOOC platform and discuss the best practices for building and deploying your MOOC. As part of this discussion, we will review several MOOC platforms that have emerged in the open source and commercial market, and evaluate the benefits and issues with the various approaches. Lastly, we will look into the near future and the emergence of Massively Open Online Networks (MOONs), which seek to go beyond the course to develop broader, more sustainable environments that bring together online courses, communities and new models of collaboration and social networking to ensure the student’s success.
