----
Abstract
----

Proven prevention strategies aimed at reducing the frequency of behaviors that increase the risk of human

immunodeficiency virus (HIV) transmission and acquisition must be made available to greater numbers of

persons with or at high risk for HIV infection. This article outlines programs that have effectively reduced

rates of high-risk behavior and HIV transmission and suggests that it may be possible to improve the efficacy

of such programs by concurrent implementation of multiple effective interventions
