2. The Lucky One

A marine (Efron) travels to North Carolina after serving three tours in Iraq and searches for the unknown woman he believes was his good luck charm during the war. Despite her initial mistrust, and complications in her life from being a divorcee with a son, a romance develops between them. This is based on the 2008 novel by Nicholas Sparks, the prolific author of the likes of The Notebook and Dear John. In fact, this is his seventh movie. Some have doubts that Efron can shake his Disney background to play a convincing marine, but he’s an underrated actor. From the director of Shine and No Reservations, this looks a lot like Dear John.
