The Way Forward
The way forward – from Copenhagen to Brussels.
The next steps towards creating a Digital Single Market in Europe by 2015 is integrating the 4 key messages of this conference in the future work and legislation. At the informal Competitiveness Council on 2-3 February 2012 the Ministers in charge of the Internal Market already agreed on 3 concrete targets to be reached in the coming years:

(1) Double online sales by 2015;

(2) Full transition to eProcurement by 2016; and

(3) Ensure that the majority of invoices will be sent electronically by 2020.

Along with the planned initiatives under the Digital Agenda for Europe, current EU initiatives such as roaming, public sector information, Connecting Europe Facility, eSignature and Internet security contribute to the framework for a digitally-driven growth in Europe.

The political commitments, the legislative agenda and the four key messages from this conference point out the direction for a truly Digital Single Market in Europe by 2015.
