Excerpt / Summary
See DM: 9535685 for July draft report
The Government has committed to a range of measures under the National Strategy on Energy Efficiency (NSEE) to improve the use of energy. One of the more significant benefits from improving energy efficiency is the associated reduction in peak electricity demand.
The OOE seeks an estimate of the impact of improved energy use during peak demand periods to assist in policy development and to help explain the need for the policies to stakeholders.
To provide a guide or context to the potential benefits, the OOE seeks to identify the benefits versus a business as usual basis if the growth rate of peak demand was reduced by 10% over a 20 and 30 year period.
The OOE does not seek an evaluation of how to improve the peak demand or whether a particular measure or action would reduce the peak demand.
The results of this study will be used to help justify to stakeholders’ potential benefits from the range of energy efficiency measures contained in the National Strategy on Energy Efficiency. Whether a particular measure will reduce the peak demand is the subject of other research and analysis.
