First Example: Jerry Sandusky A person who's sole job is to coach, guide, mentor, educate, and lead young men to work past personal battles and to come together with other members of the team for a victory, grossly betrayed everything he taught be allegedly molesting eight young boys. Along with the Catholic Priest sex scandal, this case with it's widespread coverage is damaging to societies view of people in power and does not set a good example of how to act when in power. Second Example: Kim Kardashian For someone who a lot of girls look up to for a lot of factors, she has not made the most grounded of choices over he failed marriage. And how she came to become popular only tells girls a good way to get noticed is to take off your clothes for the camera. Third Example: Patrick Sullivan To me, this is the most effective example because Mr. Sullivan dedicated his whole working life to upholding and enforcing the laws and even creating a campaign against a crime that he was indulging in. Sullivan was caught prostituting himself for meth and also had a large amount with him that he had the intent to distribute. While waiting for his trial, Sullivan is jailed in the jail that was named after the former Sheriff. The essence of Jack Johnson's begs the questions, where are the good people in society? They are harder to find. Another point Johnson makes is that society does not give attention to the people who do right and live with high standards. So is it the problem society creates for itself because the TV watchers, magazine buyers, and gossip mills demand the scandals? Regardless of societies need for stimulation, these three examples presented have been repeated in history and they need to stop. |
