Fix You is not about "never giving up", it is about the Kübler-Ross model, commonly known as The Five Stages of Grief.
 It is rumored that in 2002, Chris Martin wrote this song because of the death of his father in law, Bruce Paltrow. Chris wrote this song for his wife Gwyneth Paltrow using her dad's giant keyboard and then decided to put it on his band's album X&Y. In fact, some of the lyrics such as "Lights will guide you home, and ignite your bones", is a direct reference to candles seen at funerals and cremation. 
Therefore, the original poster does not have a true grasp on the lyrics of the song.


Regardless, although I've refuted this, Fix You is probably the last good Coldplay song they have released. The songs from the new album and Viva La Vida are absolute crap.
