FALLACIES

Hasty Generalization

1. “Obamacare, in fact, represents the largest expansion of the U.S. welfare state in nearly 50 years.”

The comparison of the Obama health care plan to the largest expansion of welfare is not supported with any facts. There is also no clear definition of what a welfare program can be. If the healthcare plan is considered a welfare program, extremely large programs such as Social Security and Medicare. In additional, a myriad of the most popular welfare programs were created in the past 50 years, such as Food Stamps and WIC. In addition to Social Security and Medicare.

2. “Reducing Obamacare’s new spending for programs that have not yet even begun is an obvious place to start.”

There is no real proof that the first the Obama health care plan should be the first program to cut off the block when there are various programs that the government runs currently that are a lot more costly and useless, such as excessive tax breaks for Billionaires and excessive military spending.

Slippery Slope

“In other words, when government offers a subsidy, it invites people to change their behavior and take advantage of it — even if this wasn’t the intent.
Beginning in 2014, tens of millions of employees will be eligible for these new subsidies. Many already have access to health insurance through their employers but are likely to find it more advantageous if this insurance is dropped, and they can instead have taxpayer health care subsidies and slightly higher wages.”

The automatic assumption that the creation of a healthcare subsidy will lead to a path that will result in every business dropping private coverage and making everyone move to the national plan is an example of the slippery slope logic.

“Obamacare will be more expensive than advertised — adding to a deficit already crippling the economy.”

The health care subsidies at hand will not start spending until 2014 and the economy was ultimately crippled due to the housing market and real estate investment groups. Obamacare is not at hand of that.

Post Hoc

“As Congress looks for ways to cut spending to get America back to AAA credit status, reducing Obamacare’s new spending for programs that have not yet even begun is an obvious place to start.”

The giant debt deficit begun way before the Obama health care plan was proposed in Congress. Records show that the US debt was already setting records during the presidency of George W. Bush and deficits expanded because of the interest paid on previous loans.

Hypocrisy

The debater seems to be extremely against debt and government spending, however, further research shows that when his party was in control of the House of Representatives, he voted in favor of various debt ceiling increases.

False Analogy

The United States is very dissimilar to the government of Greece because the economy of the US is more productive and the US population is incredibly larger than the population of Greece.
