Final Educational Philosophy by Kelly Dyke
Final Educational Philosophy by Kelly DykeâThis final educational philosophy describes my approach to education from the perspective of an adult learner. My finalized approach is sorted into three categories based on what I have learned this semester: (1) Theories of Learning; (2) The Learnerâs Experience; and (3) Considerations for Instructors. Click on each category bubble to learn more.âF1CEB7

Clearly Defined Objectives
Clearly Defined ObjectivesâLearning objectives communicate to a learner exactly what they will achieve as a result of the learning experience. A well-written learning objective will also assist with designing instruction to ensure that the material and activities achieve the learning objectives. âFFE699

Designing Instruction for Learners »
Designing Instruction for Learners
Designing Instruction for LearnersâLearning isnât just a recitation of knowledge; successful instruction provides learners with the tools to apply the knowledge to real world experiences. Learning experiences should be designed to help learners think critically and solve problems independently, as they will be required to do so after leaving the learning environment. âFFE699

Evaluating the Instruction
Evaluating the InstructionâKirkpatrick proposes that there are four levels of evaluation. Each level should be considered while designing an evaluation of the educational program. Click on the bubbles for a description of each level. âFFE699

Identifying Learnersâ Gaps »
Identifying Learnersâ Gaps
Identifying Learnersâ GapsâInstructors should evaluate any gaps between where a learner starts at and where they need to be and then design the instruction to specifically address those gaps. Examples include knowledge, skill, motivation, habit, environment, and communication gaps. Different learners will have different gaps; however, assumptions can be made. For example, learners in a graduate class most likely have a knowledge gap, so instruction should provide information specific to the subject area. âFFE699
