2. Why is the current path unsustainable?

The current path is unsustainable because it:

  • contradicts the federal goals for reduction of emissions,
  • causes air pollution that exceeds legal limits, and 
  • leads to increasing space shortage in cities which causes traffic congestion and parking problems

Participants appeared to share the view that urban mobility needs to be fundamentally rethought, especially in light of meeting the federal goals of C02 emissions reduction.
