The Moving Forward Matrix

The Moving Forward Matrix (MFM) has three rows (the headings taken and adapted from Jim Gottstein's Transformation Triangle) and two columns:

(Click on image for larger display)

The three rows are

  • 1. Change Public Attitudes,
  • 2. Offer Realistic Alternatives and
  • 3. Pursue Strategic Procedures = Policies/Legislation/Litigation

The two columns are

  • A. Promote Positive Change and
  • B. Resist Negative Change.

The MFM is action oriented. For example, Raising Public Awareness is an important part of 1A, but only a part of that entry and only one part of the matrix.

Many different groups can use the matrix while discussing the same system and some group's column A will be a mirror image of others' column B.

DebateGraph works well as a tool for implementing the MFM, with its ability to focus and refocus on different sections.
